Non-PFAS Fire Foam

Background: States across the U.S. are banning or regulating the use of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFOA/PFAS), chemicals found in firefighting foams to fight liquid fuel fires, personal products, and other sources that pose a risk to the environment. With pending and active legislation, it's a top priority for fire departments and companies to identify an alternative PFAS-free fire foam for fighting liquid fuel fires that provides an effective foam blanket for extinguishment, vapor suppression and is safe for the environment.

Mountain View Fire Rescue led an effort to test non-PFAS fire foams collaborating with Crestone Peak Resources, the CPRN, and several local Colorado FDs. The CPRN has established a YouTube channel to share the test results and presentations to identify an effective non-PFAS fire foam, testing several products in small-and-large scale tests.
